Paint Correction – Fixing the Swirls and Scratches

Paint Correction Explained

The reason and methods for paint correction vary. From heavy paint correction using 3-4 steps to a light correction to simply bring gloss back to worn out paint. We utilize a top-tier compound which, depending on the buffing/polishing pad, creates every level of paint correction needed to correct most defects found on a vehicles painted panels. When the term “paint correction” is mentioned in automotive detailing, we aren’t actually correcting paint but the clear coat that protects the paint. Whatever the level of paint correction, we do it all. From a one-step polish to wet-sanding light scratches, we do it all. The finished product is sure to leave you speechless.

The first step to any proper paint correction and ceramic coating is a good exterior wash and paint decontamination. We must ensure the surface is clear of all contaminants such as iron deposits, tar, bugs, bird “stuff” and environmental fallout. This is done through an extremely thorough wash process which includes chemical decontamination, a mechanical decontamination and by using a clay bar or clay mitt. This gives the paint an extremely smooth surface that allows us to begin with a “clean slate” and also ensures no more damage is done to the paint during the paint correction process.

The second step to a professional paint correction is to remove swirls and scratches. This is the base layer that will be visible under any coating you choose to have us apply to your vehicle. If the paint is swirled and scratched before applying a ceramic coating, it will still be scratched and swirled after applying the ceramic coating. Whether it is a simple one-step enhancement or a full-on three or four-step paint correction, we have the proper tools and expertise to make your paint as good as new before laying on the protective coating of your choice, which will go on to protect the paint and also give it the gloss necessary to give your car that “wet” look. Don’t hesitate, contact us today.

A one-step paint enhancement is used to set a gloss to your paint before applying a coating in which case we utilize a dual-action polisher with our high-quality compound/finishing polish paired with a soft finishing pad. However, sometimes a more aggressive two-stage and sometimes three or four-stage paint correction is necessary to gain that showroom shine. We use our industry-leading compound along with an aggressive cutting pad paired with either a rotary polisher or dual-action polisher. We then follow the cutting step with a high quality finishing pad to create a luster that only professional detailers can achieve. Ask us what would be the best path for your vehicles exterior appearance.
